Otherwise, here's what we'll be working on in the classroom this week:
Reading : Last week, we spent a lot of time working on visualizing a poem about a cat. We used our schema (or, what we know about cats) to help create a vivid mental image about exactly what the cat is doing in the poem.
This week, we'll be examining visualizations even closer, by discussing how we can use our other senses (taste, touch, and hearing) to help make our visualizations of written text even more vivid.
Writing : The students really enjoyed learning about describing words, or adjectives, last week. This week, we'll extend our knowledge about descriptive words, by using them to describe common, everyday objects. Perhaps we'll even start talking about metaphors! This is all important work leading up to our poetry unit.
Math : The students' hard work in paying off, as many of them are getting closer and closer to being secure with counting various money combinations. Keep working on this at home, please!
In school this week, we're going to learn about how to figure out how much change someone should get when paying for something. We'll also start investigating fractions, which the students will love!
Happy May and have a great week!
