Reading : We're starting a new reading unit about visualizing this week. When reading, it is important that you visualize (or imagine) what is going on in the story. Using clues that the author gives you, along with your schema (or what you already know), you should be able to create a detailed mental image of what is going on in the story. We'll break this down this week and learn about exactly how to do this.
Writing : We're going to start writing in two different genres this week - nonfiction and poetry. We'll be working on creating nonfiction 'all about' books, which are books all about one topic. This week, each child will choose a topic that he or she is an expert on, and start organizing the information that they already know. We'll also be dabbling a little bit in poetry writing this week.
Math : We're going to take some time to review fractions and coins in math this week.
Odds and Ends : Field trip permission slips and payment for the field trip are due on Friday, April 29th. (More information regarding this is coming home on Monday. Please email me if you have any questions.)
