Valentine Projects will be coming home this week. This project can be a quite labor-intensive and time consuming if left until the last minute. Please help your child pace him/herself so that it does not become overwhelming. Completed projects should be returned to school by February 12th.
Last week, Officer Zach visited to teach the students another lesson about how to stay safe in the community. He talked to them about what they should do if they get lost.
Here's what we were working on in the classroom last week:
Reading : We spent a lot of time talking about making meaningful text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections last week (see the previous post for more information). The students have also learned how to track their thinking by using post-its and reading journals. They've been doing some great thinking about books in school. Make sure to keep having conversations about books at home!
Writing : The students published their how-to books last week. This week we'll be starting our next unit, Opinion Writing.
Math : Last week, we focused on using greater than, less than, and equal to signs. The students also developed more understanding about how number grids are organized and started creating number grids of their own!
Social Studies : We wrapped up our geography unit last week by the students creating maps of their own using an online map-making website. This week, we'll start our next science unit, which is all about living things.
Have a great week!
