The students had a busy week last week browsing and buying at the book fair, having a visit from Officer Hamm, celebrating Earth Day, and working with their Chromebook Cousins.
Here's what we've been doing in the classroom :
Reading : We starting talking about questioning last week. Good readers ask questions, for many different reasons, while they read text. Adults often aren't aware that they're even asking questions to themselves as they read, but it is an important skill for students to add to their repertoires. Asking questions while you read helps you understand the text more deeply and remember it better. When you read with your child at home, make sure to model this skill. So far in school, we've started a lot of our questions with 'I wonder why...'
Writing : The students worked on the glossaries of their all about books last week. Ask your child which words he/she chose to include in his/her glossary!
Math : Last week, we started Unit 8, which is all about geometry. We started the week talking about the properties of polygons and then built some polygons of our own. Then, for the rest of the week, we investigated halves and fourths.
