1-Bu's Adopt a Cop visited twice last week! She talked to the students about signs in the neighborhood and about strangers. The students love it when she comes to visit.
Here's what we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : We wrapped up our Schema Unit last week and spent some time going over a few classroom management lessons to make sure that we're on top of our game when we start our next reading unit. We'll be diving into nonfiction texts this week!
Writing : Last week, we moved from writing opinion pieces (about topics we really care about) to persuasion pieces (about topics we want to change). The students have been having a lot of fun discussing things they want to change - watch out! You may have some requests for new pets or your child having his/her own room soon.
Math : Last week we spent time focusing on developing our math fact power. We reviewed +0 and +1 facts and then went over doubles facts (2+2, 3+3, etc). We also went over doubles plus one facts, which are facts like 3+4, which are one away from being a double fact.
Science : We started our new science unit, which is all about balance and motion. So far, we've focused on balance. We've done lots of various balancing activities, using our bodies, pan balances, and activities on the smart board.
Here are some pictures of the students creating pictures with base ten blocks (and counting the value of the base ten blocks they used):
