We've got a very busy week this week. We have three parent presentations on 1-Bu's families' cultures/heritages this week. In addition, the book fair is this week! 1-Bu will be going on Wednesday to preview the books that are for sale. On Thursday, we will be going to purchase books. If you would like your child to purchase books, please make sure that he or she has money with him or her on Thursday.
Last week, my mom came in to talk about British culture with 1-Bu. My mom was a little nervous to teach first graders, but the students were very excited to meet my mom!
Reading : Last week, we finished learning about the various non-fiction conventions that we see regularly in non-fiction texts. This week, we're going to continue on in our non-fiction unit by learning about how to most effectively use non-fiction books to learn about and research new information. This will include using the table of contents to get our schema ready about what information will be in each chapter and also coming up with 'wonderings' about non-fiction topics.
Writing : We're very close to publishing our writing pieces from our current writing unit. The students have been working very hard to add details and make their writing easy to read.
Math : We'll be finishing up this quick unit focusing on shapes this week. The students have done a great job with polygons, and we'll be investigating 3-d shapes this week.
Computers : Last week we had our first computer class! The students learned all about the computer room rules and started to learn about how to log in. This week, we'll all log in and start working with the computers.
Stay warm this week. I can't wait for spring weather to finally arrive for good!
