That being said, 1-Bu's parent/teacher conferences have all been scheduled for either June 3rd or June 7th. Please let me know ASAP if you are unable to make your scheduled time. When you come to school for your child's conference, you must sign-in in the office, and there will be a schedule posted directing you where to go.
It was so nice to see so many of you at Open House last week. The students were beaming with pride as they showed you around their classroom. Thank you for setting aside time to come visit 1-Bu!
Field Day: June 10th is 1st grade field day! You will receive a more detailed note about it sometime this week. Please be aware that the field day is a full day event, even though the school calendar says that it's PM only.
Reading: We have settled nicely into our new reading spots that we got a few weeks ago. Hopefully you were able to take a peek at what reading workshop looks like in 1-Bu at our Open House. Last week we continued to work on our reading stamina. We're SO CLOSE to being able to read for 30 minutes straight!
During reading workshop over the past couple of weeks, I have been doing many reading assessments. It's so great to see how far the students have progressed in such a short time!
Writing: We continued to work on small moment stories last week, in addition to (finally) publishing our non-fiction books with Ms. Kim's kindergarten class. The kindergartners were very impressed with the first graders' work! We'll quickly publish another small moment book this week so that we can get started on our independent writing projects next week.
Math: We will continue to review and extend previously taught skills and concepts this week. We are going to be focusing a lot on math fact power over the next coming weeks.
Science: This week, we are starting our ocean unit. Ocean habitats are very different from the desert habitats that we learned about !
Have a great week!
