Here's what we were working on in the classroom:
Reading : Last week, we talked about 'wonderings' the students had about the nonfiction topics they were reading about. Wonderings are things that we wonder about before, during, and after reading. They're questions that we ask ourselves about the topic of the book we're reading (for nonfiction books, anyway). It is the beginning of nonfiction research. After spending some time jotting down their wonderings, the students began to research the answers to their wonderings.
Writing : We started our Nonfiction All About Writing Unit last week! So far, the students brainstormed a list of topics they could write about. Then, they each chose a topic and created a 'web' of facts they know about the topic. After that, they started to organize the facts they wrote down into categories, which will hopefully turn into the sections in their nonfiction books.
Math : We wrapped up unit 7 last week by doing some more work with function machines and telling time.
