This week's update will be a little brief, as my personal computer died this weekend, and I'm doing this from memory. Thanks for your patience!
Reading : The students have gotten really good at using their schema while they read. This week, we're going to move on to making connections while we read. We'll focus specifically on text-to-self connections, which is when something that we're reading reminds us of something that has happened to ourselves. This way, we'll use our schema about similar experiences that we share with a text to better understand what is happening in a story.
Writing : The students had a blast adding warnings to their how-to pieces last week. This week, we'll work on polishing up our pieces and getting a piece ready to be published.
Math : This week, we're going to continue learning about comparing numbers through the exploration of weights. Last week we learned how to play a new math game called the Digit Game. The directions about how to play this game will go into your child's binder this week.
Science : This week we're going to spend time talking about various kinds of extreme weather. We'll also be lucky enough to meet with Mrs. Crawford twice this week! Once for a trip into the Star Lab to see the constellations we created, and once for a separate lesson.
Have a great week!
