Here's what we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : We are currently learning about questioning. Before, during, and after reading, readers often ask questions about what they read/are going to read. You can practice this at home by having your child come up with some questions he/she has about a book before he/she reads it. Or, while reading a book, you could ask your child if he/she has any questions about what's going on or why a character is acting a certain way. The students have gotten really good at this and will know what you mean when you tell them to tell you a question they have.
Writing : We've been working very hard at creating poetry over the last few weeks. The students are working hard to use 'poetic' language rather than just 'regular' language, which is quite a big undertaking. You'll hear some great use of poetic language at the poetry reading on June 7th.
Math : Recently, we've been doing a lot of work with the number grid. This is a great way for the students to develop number sense, as it forces them to internalize how the numbers relate to one another on the number grid.
Word Study : In the past couple of weeks we have talked about synonyms, antonyms, and compound words.
Sorry, I've only got one picture this week. I hope to see you at Open House this Thursday!
