It seems like it's been a while since we've been in the classroom together, but here's what we'll be working on this week:
Reading : We're nearing the end of our nonfiction unit. This week we're going to continue doing the nonfiction research that we were working on before we left for break. In 1-Bu, research means that we try to answer a 'wondering' that we have about a particular topic. For example, if I'm going to read a book about dolphins, it's important for me to think about a few things I wonder about dolphins before I read. In class, the students have been writing their wonderings down on post-its. Then, as the students read their books, they try to find the answers to their wonderings. Sometimes you can find the answer, and sometimes you can't.
Writing : This week, the students will be working on finishing up their published pieces and other writing projects. We'll be starting a new writing unit next week.
Math : The students have been having a lot of fun learning about polygons and three-dimensional objects. We'll finish up our geometry unit this week and start our next unit, which will focus on reviewing money and arithmetic, and then learning about fractions.
Odds and Ends : I hope to see lots of you at the River Edge Fun Run this Saturday!
Have a great week!
