1-Bu got a lot done in three days of school last week! Here's what we were working on in the classroom :
Reading : Last week, we spent a little bit more time going over what reading partners can do together. The students learned how to help their partners when they get stuck on tricky words. In school, we say that they want to be their partners' coaches, rather than just easily giving away the word. We also spent some time going over how partnerships should not only read books together, but they should also spend some time talking about the books that they read. So far, I've heard some great discussions!
We also started reading groups last week! Ask your child what book he/she read with me in his/her reading group.
Writing : The students are working on publishing their first writing pieces! The first unit was all about getting the students used to the routine and procedures of writing workshop, but the students were able to create some great writing pieces at the same time. Last week, the students chose one of the writing pieces that they wrote over the course of the first writing unit, edited it to make sure it made sense and created a cover. This week, the students will color their pictures and share their finished books with their classmates.
Math : The main focus of math last week was to continue to develop the students' knowledge about and understanding of the complements on ten. By now, most of the students are fairly familiar with the number pairs that go together to make ten. The students even learned a song to help them memorize them.
Sorry, I didn't take any pictures this week! I'll make it up to you next week. :)
