On Friday, you should have found a Scholastic News issue in your child's home folder on Martin Luther King, Jr. Every once in a while you'll see other issues in your child's folder for him/her to keep at home. We will always read over them in school first, but may not complete any, or all, of the activities that go along with the articles. Please feel free to have your child complete them at home, as they are great practice.
Reading : Last week we learned about activating our schema (or what we know about the topic of a book) before reading. This week, we'll learn about how to use our schema to help us read tricky words and better understand the text that we are reading.
Writing : Our how-to writing pieces are coming along very nicely. Last week we learned about sequencing words and to make sure that we were including all of the important steps, in order. This week, we'll learn about adding introductions and warnings to our pieces.
Math : We're starting a new math unit this week. This unit will be all about place value. To kick it off, we'll learn about base-ten blocks and greater-than/less-than symbols.
Science : We'll get back to out weather unit this week and learn all about the water cycle. By the end of the week, your child will have a fun water cycle song in his/her binder.
