The weather cooperated and we finally had a full week of school last week! It was nice to get back into the routine of things.
Thank you for all of your help with your child's Valentines Project. They turned out really well and the finished projects will be coming home on Valentines' Day.
Reading : We've been working a lot on making meaningful connections while we read. In school, we've been using post-its to write our connections down so that we remember them. The students are really starting to get a hang of making good connections that will help them understand the story they are reading at a deeper level. You can keep this up at home by asking your child what a book reminds them of.
Writing : In writing, we've gone back to writing personal narratives (or stories about the events in students' lives). Now that the students have gotten more comfortable with the craft of writing, we're going to take some time to focus on the mechanics and conventions of writing. Capital letters, periods, leaving spaces between words, etc. will be foci of the next writing unit.
Math : We've been talking about and investigating a lot about math facts recently. By now, the students should be very comfortable with +0, +1, and complements of 10 facts. Please practice these at home.
This week, in math, we're going to finish up unit 5 by talking about function machines. An explanation sheet will be connected to Tuesday's homework. Please detach the information sheet and keep it handy at home.
Odds and Ends : Please remember that there is no school next week!
