I can't believe that we're already a week into April! It is so nice to finally have these gorgeous spring days. We took advantage of the great weather last Monday to go outside on a 3-d shape hunt around the school. I hope you and your family have been able to enjoy some time outside! Last week was also the Spring Concert. The students loved watching the band, dance troupe, music club, Orff ensemble, and chorus perform.
Here's what we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : The students continued their work on nonfiction research last week by creating wonderings about topics they were reading about and searching for the answers. By the end of the week, the students chose one wondering and answer to create a 'wondering box,' which is a way to share their nonfiction research with others. The students started working on this last week and will finish it up this week. Ask your student what his/her wondering box is about.
Writing : Last week the students spent time putting the finishing touches on their nonfiction books. Our goal is to publish these nonfiction all about books before April break!
Computers : In the computer lab, we spent some time learning about how to edit and change our text in a google doc. We played around with the text that we had written in the docs we had already created for our nonfiction books. If you haven't tried logging into your student's google account at home, you should! Your student may memorized his/her log in information by now, but if not, send me an email and I'll be happy to give you the steps.
Math : We spent a little more time learning about 3-d shapes last week before reviewing polygons and their attributes. This week, we're going to start unit 9. This unit's focus is on place value and fractions.
