1-Bu had a lot of fun shopping at the Holiday Shop last week. Thanks for helping your child be prepared. We even had a fire drill right in the middle of the students buying their gifts, but 1-Bu handled it like pros.
Before Thanksgiving, the 1-Bu class moms were kind enough to come in and do a Thanksgiving craft and game with the students. We all really enjoyed them coming in and I hope you enjoyed the wreath that you child made. Thank you so much, class moms!!
Here's what we've been working on in the classroom :
Reading : Over the past couple of weeks, we have put a lot of focus on making predictions before reading. We've focused on using the cover and blurb of a book, using what you know about the author/characters, and your general schema about the topic of the book to make predictions. You can continue to work on this at home with your child by making predictions before you read books. Have a discussion about what you think will happen in the book, and why you think it will happen. This week, we'll continue talking about predictions by learning how to make and alter predictions while you read.
Writing : The students have worked hard getting their Small Moment pieces ready for publication. We're going to publish these pieces early in the week, and then start our How To unit.
Math : In math, we took a deeper look at number lines and number grids. The students practiced skip counting on them and learned how to use them as a tool to help them solve various kinds of addition and subtraction problems. The students have also learned all about frames and arrows problems.
Science : Last week, we investigated daylight and how the amount of daylight changes with each season.
