As I mentioned at Back to School Night, I do my best to update this site once a week to give you a better idea of what we're doing in the classroom. Most weeks it will be updated late Sunday/early Monday. Also, please don't forget to consistently check the CHS notices that are posted online.
Reading : This week in reading workshop, we will be talking about the structure of reading workshop. We will go over the expectations that I have during this time, as well as have the students come up with solutions for common reading workshop 'problems' (like having to go to the bathroom and what to do when they get stuck on a word).
Writing : We're launching writing workshop this week! This is an exciting time in 1-Bu, because it will be the beginning of a wonderful writing journey that the students will go on this year. They're already itching to get started writing about things that they did this summer.
Math : We've played three math games so far this year - Bunny Hop, Coin-Dice, and Top-It. The students love playing the games and aren't even aware that they're practicing important mathematical concepts. They learned all about the number line last week, and will be learning about tally marks and the calendar this week.
Science : Our caterpillars grew an incredible amount over the course of the week that we've been observing them. We've been taking journal entries to track their progress. Monday morning the students walked into a big surprise. Ask your child what the caterpillars look like now!
