Last Friday morning, we went to our first assembly of the year. It was focused on inclusion and not leaving people out. Thanks to the PTO for providing this great opportunity for our students.
This week is the Week of Respect at Cherry Hill. Each day has a different theme and a certain outfit suggestion to go along with that theme. Please see the email regarding what to wear each day.
Here's what we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : The students got their independent book bins and reading spots last week! Ask your child where his/her reading spot is. All of the students have selected their own books (at their own reading levels) to read during reading workshop. So far, the students are loving the independence of their own book bins and reading spots.
This week, we're going to focus on reading partnerships.
Writing : Writing workshop has become the students' favorite part of the day in 1-Bu. They get really excited when I tell them to get ready for writing. Last week, the students learned a few writing workshop management lessons (about how to use a stapler and organize their writing folders) and a few personal narrative craft lessons (writing about true topics that they experienced and writing across pages).
Phonics : We focused on the letters c, d, and p last week. We also learned the 'Orange' song. Once binders start going home next week, you'll be able to see all of the poems and songs that we've been working on in class.
Math : Last week, we discussed calendars, playing math games in groups, and explored various math tools that we'll be working with this year.
Science : Not much happened with our chrysalises last week. We are carefully watching them, however! Last week we learned about butterfly migration. We also got a chance to get a close-up view of the scales on butterflies' wings when a student brought in some butterfly wings and scopes.
