Here's what went on in the classroom last week:
Reading : We finished up learning about ways to develop reading stamina. The students learned about thinking about the book and what it reminds them of and re-reading a book when they're done. The students also got their own book bins and reading spots last week! Now that the students are reading from their own leveled book bins and in their own reading spots (so that they can really concentrate,) we can officially get under way with how reading will feel for the rest of the year.
Writing : Last week, we went over making sure the pictures match the words on the page, stretching out words you don't know how to spell, and how to use a stapler (which was the most exciting of all).
Math : We finished up our first math unit last week. The students go a chance to explore many of the math manipulatives that we'll be using this year, they learned how to playTop-It and Rolling for 50, and they learned how to use the number grid and solve number stories.
Science : The butterflies emerged this week! It was a very exciting week in science. The students were a little concerned about releasing the butterflies during the dreary, drizzly day on Friday, but all of the butterflies flew away! Observing the last stage of the butterfly life cycle helped to solidify the students' knowledge of the life cycle.
Technology : We got the Chromebooks out for the first time last week! The students did a great job logging in and setting up their Typing Club accounts, which is a program we're going to be using this year to help the students learn and practice their typing skills.
