This Wednesday (October 5th) is Parent Visitation Day. On this day, you have an opportunity to observe what goes on in 1-Bu on a regular day. I will send a detailed notice home on Tuesday regarding our approximate schedule. You may come and observe for a 20 minute time period from 9:00-11:30am or a 20 minute time period from 1:15-2:45pm.
Here is what's going on in the classroom:
Reading : Last week the students got their own book bins and reading spots. Ask your child where his/her reading spot is!
This week, we're going to spend some time discussing partner reading. The students will each get a partner and learn how to read and discuss books together.
Writing : This week, we're going to start talking about ways to get good writing topic ideas. At this point, all of the students should be writing true stories that have happened to them. The beautiful folders you helped decorate will come in quite useful for this week, and the rest of the year!
Math : We are going to start Unit 2 this week. We'll launch unit 2 by discussing numbers, number grids, and complements of ten. (Complements of ten are pairs of numbers that add up to ten. For example, 2 and 8, or 3 and 7.)
Science : The students will get their first look at our creatures this week. (Caterpillars were delivered last week, but they turned into chrysalises over the long weekend before the students could even see them as caterpillars!)
I hope to see you on Wednesday!
