Here is what's been going on in the classroom:
Adopt-a-Cop : Last week, the students were very excited to have their first meeting with the River Edge police officer that we have 'adopted' this year, Officer Marc. In first grade, each classroom 'adopts' a River Edge police officer to develop a rapport with and learn safety tips from. Officer Marc will visit us 1-2 times a month, and the kids really look forward to his lessons. During his first visit, last Wednesday, Officer Marc introduced himself and told the students all about his uniform and the tools that he carries.
Reading : This week, we are going to start talking about 'just right' books, and how the students can determine which books are 'just right' for themselves as readers. 'Just right' books are books that are at each child's perfect reading level - not too easy, not too hard, but just right.
Writing : Continuing on in our Small Moments Unit, this week we're going to discuss various ways that writers can add details to their writing.
Math : This week we're going to do some more work on the number line, using it to solve addition and subtraction problems. Then, we'll learn about telling time to the half-hour.
Have a great week!
