Officer Diamond also stopped by for a visit a couple of weeks ago. He talked to the students about times when it's appropriate to dial 911.
There are a couple of important dates coming up. Open House is during the evening on May 28th. It's a great chance for your child to show you all of the work he/she has been doing in the classroom recently. Also, the First Grade Poetry Reading is on June 4th at 1:30pm. Each first grader will read a poem that he/she has written. I hope you can make it!
Here's we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : The students have been working on inferring the meaning of written text. While we've been working on it mainly with poems, inferring is a very important reading skill in general. Authors imply meanings and messages in many different ways throughout many different kinds of texts.
Ask your child to read you some of the poems that we used to practice our inferring skills in the classroom. (They're in the poetry section of your child's binder.) See if you can infer what the poem is about!
Writing : The students have been busy finishing up their all about books and using them to create Google Slides presentations. We've also kicked off our poetry unit by creating list poems and sensory poems.
Math : We've spent a lot of time focusing on geometry recently. We've gone over defining attributes of two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, composing and decomposing shapes, and dividing shapes into equal shares.
Here are some pictures from last couple weeks. Have a great week!
