This week is going to be a little crazy with conferences and strange schedules, but here's what we've been working on:
Reading : I know I sound like a broken record when I say it, but the students are really enjoying this nonfiction unit. They've all found nonfiction books that interest them and they love reading them and finding out new information. So far, the students know how to extract information from labels, photographs, captions, and comparisons. This week, we'll focus on cutaways and close-ups.
Writing : We spent a lot of time last week going over capital letters, but many of the students still haven't taken this on board in their own writing. Please encourage your child to use capital letters correctly when he/she is writing his/her word wall sentences homework during the week.
This week, we'll focus on making our writing 'easy to read' by adding feelings so that the reader understands exactly how we felt during the story.
Math : Keep practicing those math facts with the fact triangles! The students have been doing a great job with fact families in school, so let's keep the momentum going.
This week, we're going to learn about quarters and digital clocks. After this week, the students will have been exposed to counting combinations of the most common American coins (quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies). Next time you get change somewhere, hand it to your child and have him/her count it.
Theme Study : This week we're going to learn all about the culture/heritage of 1-Bu students through our culture doll presentations. Thank you for all the hard work you did at home. The dolls look great!
See you soon!
