Spelling: Even though there are only three nights of homework this week, I am still going to assign all of the spelling homework as usual. Please have your child read the words on Tuesday night, in addition to the other assignment.
Reading: Nightly reading homework starts Tuesday night. Please carefully read the note explaining my expectations. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me or send a note to school.
Otherwise, in reading this week, we will be learning about how good readers use their schema to help them understand the story. Up until now we've just been focusing on activating the right kind of schema to get our minds ready for a book, but now the students will be responsible for using their schema throughout their reading.
Writing: Last week, the students came up with a list of things that makes writing easy-to-read. This week, we'll spend some time going over a few of the items on the list that the students came up with, so that they can learn how to apply it to their writing.
Math: We'll start off the week expanding upon our knowledge of place value. Then, we're going to use that knowledge to make relations between numbers (greater than, less than, and equal to).
Extras: Our Adopt-a-Cop, Officer Marc, came back last Friday with a working digital camera, and we were able to take pictures next to his police car. Next time he visits, he will bring a photo of each child next to his police car for the students to take home.
On Wednesday morning, 1-Bu will get a chance to visit the Star Lab! Last month in Discovery Lab the students created their own constellations, and we'll be able to see our class' creations!
