Here's what we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : We focused on fluency last week. In 1-Bu, we say that reading with fluency means reading like a story teller (not a robot). To read fluently, readers read smoothly, they give characters different voices, and they read with expression to convey mood. We also spoke about paying particular attention to periods, exclamation marks, and questions marks. When you read to your child at home, please do your best to model fluent reading.
Writing : The students worked hard getting their Small Moment pieces ready for publication. We're going to have our publishing party this Monday and then start our How To unit.
Math : We did a little more work with skip counting and frames and arrows to wrap up Unit 3 last week. This week, we'll start Unit 4, which is a fun unit all about measurement.
Science : In science, we've been busy learning about the moon and what makes day and night. We've also gone over the phases moon and why the moon looks a little different every night. If you can remember to look at the moon, it would be fun for you child to track the moon phases over the next couple of weeks.
Sorry, there are no pictures from last week. Stay tuned next week for pictures from the field trip. Have a great week!
