Here is what's we're working on this week:
Reading : Many of the students have new reading partners this week, so the students will spend some time getting to know their new partners. Ask you child who his/her reading partner is.
At the same time, we're continuing working on retelling. Two important parts of a retell, that we've gone over quite extensively, are the characters in the story and the setting of the story. When you read with your child at home, ask him/her who the characters are and where the story takes place.
Writing : The students have been doing a fantastic job adding details to their writing. This had made their writing much more clear. We have a few more details to go over this week, before we move towards publishing our small moment writing stories.
Math : We're going to wrap up unit 3 this week by practicing counting combinations of dimes, nickels, and pennies and doing some addition work using dominoes. If you're ever at the store with your child and you receive some coins as change, have your child count the change for you. (You should take out the quarters, though, because we have gone over those yet.)
Science : Last week we talked a lot about Earth's moon and the moon phases. When it's a clear night, have your child look up at the moon and tell you what phase it is. (We discussed new moon, crescent moon, half moon, gibbous moon, and full moon.) This week, we're moving on to talk about the sun and the planets in our solar system.
Have a great week!
