You will be receiving your child's report card for the first marking period on Monday. We will discuss your child's progress and any questions/concerns you may have at your scheduled parent/teacher conference this week. Please remember that Tuesday and Thursday, December 3rd and 5th are 12:45pm dismissal days (in order to allow time for parent/teacher conferences).
Since there were only two and a half days of school last week, this will be short, but here's what we were working on in the classroom last week:
Reading : We talked about 'just right books' last week. We compared it to riding a bike. Books that are 'too easy' are comparable to when you're riding a bike downhill - you don't have you do much work and you can go fast. Books that are 'too hard' are comparable to when you're riding a bike uphill - you have to do a lot of work and you go very slow. Books that are 'just right' are like when you're riding a bike on a flat surface with a few bumps up and down - you have to do some work, but it's relatively smooth. We spoke about how we should aim to be reading 'just right books' for the majority of the time we read, because that's what makes us stronger readers.
Writing : We continued learning about how to add details to our small moment writing pieces last week by talking about adding weather words, size words, and characters' moods/feelings.
Math : We focused on how to add and subtract on the number line last week.
Social Studies : We read a few books and talked about the commonly understood reasoning behind why Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.
Sorry no pictures last week!
