Inside our warm classroom, we've been busy learning. Here is what's we're working on this week:
Reading : Reading homework will start this week! A detailed note, along with a book, will be in your child's backpack. Please take some time to read the note, read with your child, and correctly fill out the reading log. If you have any questions, doesn't hesitate to email me or send me a note.
Otherwise, we've just finished a mini-unit on retelling. We talked a lot about the five important parts of a retell - characters, setting, events, problem, and solution. Your child has been practicing this in class and should be able to tell you each of the five important parts of a retell about a story you've read.
This week, we're going to start a mini-unit of fluency.
Writing : This week, we're going to work on getting a writing piece ready to publish. We'll start off by talking about how to make strong endings to our pieces, and then we'll learn how to revise our writing with the help of writing partners.
Math : We're starting Unit 4 this week! This is a fun unit all about measurement. We'll kick it off by talking about and investigating standard and non-standard units of measure.
Science : We talked about the sun a lot last week, and other planets' relations to the sun. This week, we'll spend some time talking about other things in space, like comets, asteroids, and meteors.
Odds and Ends : Officer Marc, 1-Bu's Adopt-a-Cop, visited on Friday to discuss street signs with the students. He went over various signs and what they mean. He'll also be visiting this Monday to show us his police car, and hopefully take pictures next to it!
