Please remember that there is no school April 12-15. April 16th is a regular, full day of school.
Reading: We're going to continue talking about 'wonderings' this week. We'll discuss how 'wonderings' are different, depending on when you make them - before, during, or after reading a passage of text. The students have been using post-its to keep track of their wonderings during reading workshop.
Writing: This 'All-About Books Unit' is a huge hit with the students! They have been creating fabulous all-about books and I have been learning a lot! This week we're going to focus on adding glossaries, diagrams, and comparisons. Ask your child what 'all-about topic' he or she is writing about!
Math: The students did very well with our short geometry unit, and now we're moving on to a unit that focuses on math facts, money, and fractions. This week we'll take a close look at money - counting it and representing it using correct dollar and cents notation. (Now that we've covered all the coins, we're moving on to dollar bills!)
Social Studies: We wrapped up our multi-cultural unit with eight fantastic parent presentations. (Thank you, again, to those of you who came in!) Now, we're moving on to learning about Mexico. Over the next month or so, we will become experts on Mexico and Mexican culture.
I hope you all have an enjoyable spring break. Please be aware that I will be out of town for most of spring break, and will not have access to my email during that time. Happy Spring!
