Here's what we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : We finished up our nonfiction reading unit last week by doing some nonfiction research and creating some 'fun facts' of our own. Each student found a fact that he/she felt was interesting and created a fun fact page. Ask your child what fact he/she wrote about!
Writing : After doing lots of prep work over the past couple of weeks, the students finally got a chance to start writing their all about nonfiction books last week. It took a lot of time to organize the facts they knew about their topics and organize them into the proper headings. Hopefully now that they've done all the hard, organizational work that these books will be a cinch to write! So far, the students have all written their tables of contents and at least the beginnings of their first chapters.
Math : We started unit 8 last week, which is all about geometry. The students are loving it so far! We talked about polygons (and the students created their own polygons with straws and pipe cleaners) and dividing shapes into equal parts - halves and fourths.
