We had a fun time celebrating Earth Day last week by decorating pots and planting flowers in them. Hopefully your child's plant is thriving at home! Thank you to the class parents for all of your help with this special project.
Here's what we've been working on in the classroom:
Reading : We've been working on visualizing and inferring with poetry. Poets tend to use strong language that make it easier to visualize and infer the author's meaning, so we've been doing a lot of work with poems. Most of the poems that we've worked with are in the poetry section of your child's binder. The students spent a lot of time reading poems and being detectives, trying to figure out what the author of the poem was talking about. Try it at home! Have you child read you a poem without him/her telling you what the title is and see if you can figure out what the author is talking about.
Writing : The students are just about done with their All About books. Ask your child what he/she has written about!
Math : We started our next math unit, which has a focus on geometry. So far, the students got an introduction to fractions by learning about equal shares, halves, and fourths.
Science : The students have been learning all about the desert lately. Ask your child what he/she knows.
