Reading : We moved on to a new reading unit, which is about visualizing and inferring. In our continuing quest to read many different kinds of texts, we will be reading many poems during this unit.
We kicked off this unit by discussing visualization. Ask your child what it means to visualize a text. In school, we spoke about how you don't only imagine what you might 'see' in a text, but you should also use your other sense as well - touch, smell, hearing, and taste.
Writing : We continued working on our nonfiction, all about books. The students organized all the facts that they knew about their nonfiction topics into different headings, which become the different chapter headings in their books. After that, they started working on writing the first sections on their books.
Math : Continuing on in our geometry-focused math unit, we learned all about two- and three-dimensional shapes. We also learned a little bit more about symmetry, and created shapes with two lines of symmetry.
Word Study : Bossy R took over phonics! We learned all about the different Bossy R sounds - /ar/, /er/, /ir/, /or/, and /ur/. Have you child read the Bossy R poem (which is in his/her binder) to you!
Odds and Ends : Keep in mind that the field trip is on Thursday, April. Please dress your child in comfortable clothing.
Have a great week! (Sorry, no pictures for this post.)
