Here's a quick recap of what we worked on in the classroom last week :
Reading : The students did some very high level inferring with poetry last week. We read poems that seemed to make no sense whatsoever at first, but then we worked together to make our way through the poets' rich language to infer what they were describing. The students did a really nice job sticking with it and not giving up! On Friday, we transferred our knowledge of inferring the meaning of poets' texts to a Pixar Short Film. The students had to infer what was going on in the short film because there were no words. They did a great job! I'm so impressed with their work.
Writing : After doing lots of research, the students were ready to start writing their nonfiction all about books last week. So far, they've worked hard to synthesize all of the information that they researched on their animals' bodies in order to write their first sections. They are doing really high level work! Ask your child to tell you what he/she has learned about the animal he/she is writing about.
Math : Last week learned about digital vs analog clocks. Then, we wrapped up the rest of unit 7 by reviewing function machines and math fact strategies. This week we'll be diving into a unit all about geometry!
I hope you have a great week! Sorry, no pictures from last week. :)
