Thank you for all of your hard work going through all of the paperwork last week. The beginning of the year is always tough as so much needs to go home! Also, thank you to those of you who have already written to me describing your child. I really cherish all of the responses and appreciate the time you put into them. If you haven't done it yet, try and get it to me by this coming weekend. (If you have no clue what I'm talking about, please email me or write me a note.)
Most weeks I will create a post on this website filling you in with all of the latest news and learning that we've been doing in 1-Bu, so please check back at least once a week. For now, I'll just talk briefly about a few of the things we've been doing.
Introductions : Every day at the beginning of the year, we will interview a different student in 1-Bu so that we get to know each other well. The students are really excited to get to act as news reporters and to be interviewed themselves!
Reading : We kicked off reading workshop on the first day of school and we're currently talking about the favorite books that the students brought in and why its important to think about favorite books.
Writing : We're not kicking off writing workshop until next week, because we've had lots of bits and pieces of writing to get done in the mean time. The students created Back to School Night invitations, are working on caterpillar journals, and have done a beginning of the year writing piece.
Math : So far we've explored the pattern block templates and learned a math game called Coin Dice. We've also practice counting and skip counting.
Science : On Monday, I revealed the first topic that we're going to study in science this year to the students - caterpillars and butterflies. We've currently got two caterpillars crawling around in a little plastic container in our classroom. We'll observe them over the next week or so to see what happens.
Reminder : Back to School Night is on Thursday, September 16th at 7:15pm in the CHS gym. I look forward to seeing many of you there. Once we get down to the classroom, I'll be talking about the first grade curriculum and the expectations I have for the students. Please make every effort to attend. (Please note that this is a 12:45 dismissal day for the students. There will be no lunch that day, but please pack a larger than normal snack.)
CHS Notices : Many notices that the office sends out are online now. There is a link on the Cherry Hill School website, and I have also added a page to this website with a link straight to the notices page. Scroll up a bit on this page and look to the left. Then, click on CHS Notices.
I hope you have a great week and I look forward to seeing many of you on Thursday night!
